Centre Director Robert Jenssen receives the IAPR Fellow Award‍

Congratulations to Centre Director Robert Jenssen, who was appointed as a new fellow of the International Associaton for Pattern Recognition (IAPR).

The IAPR Fellow Award is given biennially to recognize the recipients' distinguished scientific contributions to the field of pattern recognition and services to IAPR.

The number of elected fellows every two years is limited to a maximum of 0.25% of the total IAPR membership.

Jenssen is delighted to receive this recognition from IAPR.

"Over 50 years, the IAPR has had tremendous impact on AI and machine learning research, and I have always found it very important to contribute to that personally and on behalf of UiT. What I find satisfying, being named an IAPR Fellow, is that the fellowship criteria emphasise societal impact in addition to core scientific contributions," Jenssen says.

"There has never been a greater opportunity, or a greater need, for AI to be developed, responsibly, scientifically, and for real applications to meet the grand societal challenges of our time," he adds.

Jenssen's research novel AI methods through information theory for the development of reliable and explainable AI, paving the way for more efficient and responsible applications. His extensive work has lead to numerous innovations within industrial domains such as medicine and health and observational systems.

The International Association for Pattern Recognition is an association of non-profit, scientific, and professional organizations concerned with pattern recognition, computer vision, and image processing in a broad sense.
