Tackling societal challenges

The Arctic is of increasing global importance.

The biggest societal challenges of our time, such as climate change, the exploitation of Arctic resources, equal health services for all, and environmental and security threats, are topics of great public concern. UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a special responsibility in this regard.

Our position is that if we are to solve the big societal challenges with AI then we need to collaborate more within AI research, between technologies and the sciences, and between research, innovation and industry.

[AI]2 – The Arctic Institute for AI in Science and Innovation – is a university-wide strategic AI initiative at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. By pooling UiT’s machine learning and AI resources while strengthening interdisciplinarity, industry collaboration, national collaboration, and selected international partnerships, we stand stronger together.

[AI]2 is in a buildup phase.

[AI]2 grows out of Visual Intelligence, a Centre for Research-based Innovation in AI funded by the Research Council of Norway grant no. 309439 (2021-2029).
