About

Georgios Leontidis is Professor of Machine Learning, conducting research in self supervised learning and multimodal systems. He is an interdisciplinary researcher who has worked with several stakeholders and disciplines across climate, energy, law, healthcare and environment, including companies such as Siemens, Tesco and others.

His research interests lie in:

  • Sea Ice Forecasting
  • Multimodal foundation models for climate
  • Responsible AI systems for Healthcare
  • Beyond Euclidean Deep Learning for Multimodal Data
  • Machine Learning for Asset Management and Preparedness

Internationally, Georgios is involved in several activities through ELLIS Society membership, communities such as NeurIPS, ICLR and TMLR for which he is an Area Chair, bodies such as the EU, and as a moderator for Arxiv.

Before joining UiT, he was a Full Professor and AI Director at the University of Aberdeen. As AI Director, Georgios co-led the NOK 200M UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral training SUSTAIN, among several other projects.

Georgios is a founding Co-Director of [AI]² – Arctic Institute for AI in Science and Innovation.
